‘When you talk about things that are uniquely Australian, somewhere along the line Ken Done’s name will come up. The painter’s work was catapulted into national recognition during the 1980’s, through his engaging paintings of landmarks like Sydney Harbour and the Barrier Reef, not to mention his wide range of products and apparel. Touted by some as ‘taking the beige out of Australia’, his rapid rise to household name notoriety can be partly attributed to his history in advertising. A business acumen and an understanding of the mechanics of advertising never hurt and artist (just ask Warhol), in fact they can often deliver a creative to ‘icon status’ and such is the case with Ken …’
